It is simply amazing how we take our health for granted especially when you have no reason to question it! We have a healthy son VALUES(or so we thought) who has 2 young sons who absolutely adore their father! He is slightly overweight, currently on high blood pressure medication and of course, has the usual aches and pains of getting old. We had been reading an awful lot about Dr. Ron Schefdore’s discovery on how a simple little blood test could reveal some dark secrets that we would otherwise never have suspected. We purchased his CRP tests and Diabetes Risk Assessment Kit and like many of you, stuck it in a closet to gather dust. We decided to break the blood screening kits out of the closet and put them to the test!
We used our son as a guinea pig since he had been suffering from chronic irritable bowel syndrome and knew that something would come back that could confirm how bad he was out of whack. After we got the results back it definitely confirmed that he had inflammation. His CRP test came back with a result of 9 and found out that anything over a 3 was not a good thing. He had extensive testing done previously such as an MRI, colonoscopy, and any other test but nothing revealed anything earth shaking! We continued with probiotics and other treatments but he was still left with the problem.
Anyway, my son and I were intrigued with his results and decided to do the tests on ourselves although we knew that we were certainly better off than he was! The results for me were good coming back with a 1.7 but the killer was our son’s results which came back a 13! He was convinced that his scores were high because he had been suffering a bad case of the flu. We decided that we would wait until he felt better and retake the test.
We waited a few weeks to retest but also decided to do not only the CRP but also do the Diabetes Risk Assessment test since diabetes runs rampant on both sides of our family. We waited patiently to get the results back but we had the attitude that everything would come back normal! When the results were back we were shocked, horrified and scared! His CRP did drop some, but an 11 certainly was not acceptable! And even scarier was his Diabetes Risk Assessment! He had been thrown into the high risk category and was headed for a full blown sentence of being a victim of diabetes!
Luckily, I had a bone density test done and was on the phone with my doctor giving me my results. In our conversation I told her about our son’s results and she told me that I needed to get him in for a complete physical. They got him in the next day and did full blood work up, chest x-rays, and some other tests. His x-rays showed that he may have an enlarged heart so they ordered an EKG. Thank goodness they had all the equipment in their office, so they were able to do it immediately! Unfortunately, the results showed some irregularity in his heart which show he may have some blockage?
They then sent him to his cardiologist for further testing. He took his CRP test results to show his doctor and the doctor was not pleased at all and ordered a complete stress test with all the dyes, etc. He is scheduled to do this soon but in the meantime we are chomping at the bit to get the results. All of this was a tremendous eye-opener not only for him but also for his father and I! It certainly got his attention and he has already begun altering his lifestyle.
I called Dr Schefdore to discuss his results and also told him that his blood work revealed he also had high cholesterol. Ron told me that our son had just won the “Trifecta” and it certainly was not something that he would be taking to the bank! He said that with his high CRP, high diabetic risk, and high cholesterol, he was a walking time bomb, possibly heading for a stroke or a heart attack! Anyway, needless to say we are on a mission to find out what is really going on with him and nick it in the bud before he gets any worse or becomes insulin dependent!
As previously stated, this simple blood test could literally have saved his life! With all this happening to us personally, we started wondering how many of our patients are walking time bombs like our son!
The question is now, how many “seemingly healthy” patients are walking around with high CRP levels or are at risk for diabetes and don’t even know it? Most don’t visit their physicians as often as they do their dentists. How would you feel if you could perhaps save someone else’s life as well as yourself and your loved ones by administering these simple tests! These tests are cheap compared to what it may cost if a condition blows up to where someone would be faced to live with these diseases that could have possibly been prevented if they had only been aware or informed!
I urge each and every one of you to visit Dr. Ron Schefdore’s websites at healthyheartdentistry.com & dentistryagainstdiabetes.com or see some of the testimonials on Pharmaden.net to get some very valuable information! I must warn you though—it might just save your life and those of others! I personally want to thank Ron for his diligent research and his efforts to get this information out to other dentists to better serve their patients. Dentists do and can make a difference in the lives of others. Just saving one life could be one of the most rewarding experiences that you will ever have. We will be continuing to track our son’s progress and will pass it on—should be very interesting! If you have any questions please call or get Dr Ron’s phone number from his websites and give him a call. He is a super guy who has everyone’s best interest at heart VALUES(literally!) I have nothing to gain from this except our son’s life and that happens to be priceless!
