Maybe someone can help me.A patient came to my office the other day.She has three implants placed in the worst angulation and positions possible. She had them done by another dentist who both placed the implants and restored the bridge.I have no idea what implant they are.I primarily do 3I and NobelBiocare implant restorations. This does not look like them at all.It looks like a Certain but my impression copings do not fit.Any ideas.

What is the shape of the top of the implant? If it is a hex it is an old Branemark implant.  If it looks like a certain maybe it is a replace select.

I bet it’s a Strauman implant.  Call your Strauman rep in your area and see if he can come to your office with impression copings.  They usually have an assortment of trial pieces. Maybe He can let you use an impressions coping until you get one that fits.

Thanks T but it is an internal connection and I tried my replace impression copings in it already.

Doug, I called Strauman and went on their website.  I don’t think it is Strauman. Thanks

Can you take and X-ray of the implant and look at the shape of the implant?

By Doug Rogers, December 8, 2008
Sorry I could not be more help, Good luck.

My best guess is: Zimmer Screw-Vent. It is an internal hex, multiple surfaces offered. It could be ha blasted (roughened TiO2) or HA coated. Either a 1.5 or 3.0 mm machined (polished) collar. N.B. it looks like a combo of gold an titanium screwsabutments were used as well. good luck.

not sure...how old is this bridge, do you know when it was restored?

By T. Saccente, December 28, 2008
So Carl you some kind of implant expert or something?

By Burton Samuels, December 28, 2008
I have a set of X-rays.

By Sam Iacono, December 28, 2008
How do you like 3I implants. I have heard a lot of bad stuff about failures with that implant.

By Carl White, March 13, 2009
Good, we could do a few things. You can describe the x-ray to me and I can help you figure out what implant it is or maybe we can get a copy n this board somehow.

T. I do not consider myself and expert but I have been restoring implants many years. I may be of some use.

By T. Saccenti., March 13, 2009
3I makes a great implant. That is all I use. They had a minor problem a year or so ago but I have had nothing but success with it.

Notice from the website administrator. You may either use the case studies section of Dental Scholar news to upload your X-rays for viewing or upload any pictures on our DDS website email. If you have not already done so you may get a free website by entering here.

Cool, I just uploaded the pictures onto the case studies site.

By Doug Rogers, March 13, 2009
I agree 3 I is a good company. I love the new encode system

By Carl White, March 13, 2009
There you go. I would say those are Corevent implants. A quick history is first there was Corevent, Which became DENTSPLY, then Paragon, Then Sulzer, Then Centerpulse and is Now Zimmer. You can call Zimmer and they can get you what you need.

By Donna Geramino, March 13, 2009
I just came across this blog and I have to age they look like Screw vent implant from Zimmer. You can also buy parts from MIS they sell a whole assortment of parts for this system

Boston

I keep hearing about encode. What is that?

By Bill Hickey, March 13, 2009
Don’t forget Implant Direct.

By Burton Samuels, March 13, 2009
Wow I just spoke to a technical guy at Zimmer. He looked at the X-rays and agreed. He is sending me impression copings and analogs to remark the case.
Thanks a lot everyone especially you Carl. This was very helpful

By Carl White, March 13, 2009
No problem, glad to be of help. Let me know how it works out.

By T. Saccenti, March 13, 2009
Encode is an interesting system where the surgeon puts a special encoded healing abutment on the implants. You do not have to take a picture level impression. Instead you take a regular impression and a computer makes the abutment and place z the analog into the model. You All we have to do is place the abutments and cement a crown. No impression or anything. .

By Doug Rogers, March 13, 2009
I did a few and the lab fees are not cheaper but higher. Also I had a lot of problems with the crowns. I don’t think they perfected the system yet.

By Bill Hickey, March 13, 2009
NobelBiocare, 3I and Strauman are all overpriced and not worth it. MIS and Implant Direct are cost friendly and easy to use.

By Sam Iacono, March 13, 2009
Thanks for the help. I am going to check out 3I now.

By Burton Samuels, March 13, 2009
I just took the impression for this case. A nice sales rep came with screwdrivers and helped me remove the old bridge and take the impression. A very easy system. Thanks again As far as 3I, I love the system and the support. I also restore a lot of Nobel and I have no complaints about them either. They are very user friendly and easy to use implants. I did encoded a few years ago and I did not like them... I heard they re launched it making it better but have not done one yet.

By T. Saccenti, March 13, 2009
Sam no problem, let us know how it works out.

By Bill Hickey, March 13, 2009
Good luck Sam and Burton

By T. Saccenti, March 13, 2009
Carl you still around? Sorry if you were offender by my question before. Just trying to break the ice.

By Doug Rogers , March 13, 2009
I don’t think Carl likes you Doug.

By T. Saccenti, March 13, 2009
You may be right. I don’t get why. I just asked a little question. Carl you out there? You mad

By Doug Rogers, March 13, 2009
He’s not answering you

By T. Saccenti, March 13, 2009
Well f…. him if he can’t take a joke

By Bill Hickey, March 13, 2009
Maybe he is not coming to the board anymore.

By Doug Rogers, March 13, 2009
Yeah, T. pissed him off

By Burton Samuels, March 13, 2009
I just got back the metal work on custom abutments. The case is looking very nice. I think it will work out.

T. I re read the posts and I think you are over reacting. Carl is not angry with you.

By T. Saccenti, March 13, 2009
If anyone is over reacting its Carl.

By Bill HickeyBill Hickey, March 13, 2009
Glad to hear that the case is working out Burt.

By Doug Rogers , March 13, 2009
Face it you sent him packing

By Bill Hickey, March 13, 2009
Doug you seem to be a real instigator.

By T. Saccenti, March 13, 2009
Bills right, get off my back

By Doug Rogers , March 13, 2009
Don’t kill the messenger

By Carl White, March 13, 2009
What is the problem here? I am sorry but I am not online all the time. I have been incredibly busy. I am not mad at anyone. Or was not mad. This conversation about me is quite annoying. Why at happened to discussing cases? Let’s get back to business.

By Bill Hickey, March 13, 2009
See I told you guys.

By Doug Rogers , March 13, 2009
He seems pissed to me

By T. Saccenti, March 13, 2009
Sorry Carl, to get back on topic we were discussing encode. You have any opinions on it?

By Carl White, March 13, 2009
I am not a big 3I fan. I do a lot of Atlantis. I don’t do any encode.

By Bill Hickey, March 13, 2009
Isn’t Atlantis real expensive?

By T. Saccenti, March 13, 2009
You like Atlantis?

By Carl White, March 13, 2009
Actually I do most screw retained. But when I do cementable Atlantis is the way I go. I have a great lab on the premises. I can get Atlantis abutments direct from Atlantis and they work fine.

By Burton Samuels, March 13, 2009
The bridge is done. 100% success Thank you all

By Von Hayes, April 3, 2009
I would send the patient back to the dentist that did this to reduce your liablity.
